The highly-anticipated Women in Media conference, previously held on the Gold Coast, will finally be taking place in Sydney on September 8th and 9th. As a national organisation, it has always been the plan to take the conference to other states and share the event with members and working media women across the country. After conducting a survey of prior attendees, the overwhelming majority selected Sydney as the next preferred location, and now, the conference is finally coming to the vibrant New South Wales city.
Almost half of prior attendees are based in New South Wales. We also know there are more working media women based in Sydney that have not been able to attend previously. It's unfortunate that staging an event in a capital city comes with a higher price tag, and this is reflected in the ticket pricing. But rest assured, this two-day event, complete with national and international speakers, industry leaders, a breakfast event, meals, and networking drinks, is still priced well below market rates for an event of this scale. As a not-for-profit, volunteer-led organisation, Women in Media exists to provide opportunities to connect, grow and contribute. We encourage women of all career stages to attend and understand that some may find this increase in price a barrier. We recognise that it may be more expensive for some, however we do know it will also be cheaper for others. There are more flight and accommodation options in Sydney which may reduce costs for those travelling to the conference.
Women in Media want to make this event accessible to as many media professionals as possible. We are trying to absorb some of the costs by offering a discounted rate (which is lower than the Early Bird rate) for previous attendees. For those who need a little help managing cash flow, we've made sure that After Pay is an option and as always, we have the 'Pay it Forward' option, where members can contribute to or pay for a ticket for another media woman, who might otherwise not be able to come.
We also encourage media organisations to invest in their employees by purchasing tickets, recognising that this is valuable for professional development.
