Women in Media proudly announces the appointment of Anita Jacoby AM to the role of Chair and Bridget Fair as Deputy Chair, as founding member and former Co-Chair Victoria Laurie steps away after nearly two decades of committed service and advocacy for women in the sector.

Anita Jacoby AM, one of Australia’s most accomplished television producers and media executives, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to her role. Bridget Fair, Chief Executive Officer of Free TV Australia, adds extensive expertise in media and television to the board. Their appointments are effective immediately, each for a three-year term.

"I am honoured to chair Women in Media alongside our esteemed board. Our mission to empower women and drive gender equality has never been more critical. Through our innovative industry programs, we aim to elevate women’s leadership and amplify their voices across the industry," said Ms Jacoby.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Ms. Fair stated, "Supporting an equitable industry opens pathways for women and strengthens economic participation—both essential for Australia’s media landscape.”

Victoria Laurie, founder and former co-chair, said Women in Media is poised for an exciting new era. “I’m thrilled that the powerful leadership team of Anita and Bridget, and our impressive board members, will create new opportunities for this important community of women. Since the very beginning, our mission has been to empower and advocate for women across the broad landscape of Australia’s media sector. This remains a source of inspiration and passion that I will continue to support.”

Ms Jacoby added, “On behalf of the Board, I acknowledge Victoria’s outstanding leadership and fortitude in building Women in Media into the organisation it is today. With more than 6,700 subscribers, her contributions have greatly strengthened Australia’s media landscape.”

Women in Media is working to address the persistent barriers faced by women in the media industry, as highlighted in the Women in Media Industry Insight Report 2024.

The Women in Media Industry Insight Report 2024 shows barriers persist for women working in media, with the majority of women 57% (▲3%) dissatisfied or unsure with their career progress, with notable spikes among early and mid-career women. The Report underscores the need for focused gender equity efforts, pathways for career progress, and access to support and resources for women working in all roles and types of media.
